Jerusalem

I love both the hymn and William Blake’s lyrics…

Jerusalem

And did those feet in ancient time.
Walk upon England’s mountains green:
And was the holy Lamb of God,
On England’s pleasant pastures seen!

And did the Countenance Divine,
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
And was Jerusalem builded here,
Among these dark Satanic Mills?

Bring me my Bow of burning gold;
Bring me my Arrows of desire:
Bring me my Spear: O clouds unfold!
Bring me my Chariot of fire!

I will not cease from Mental Fight,
Nor shall my Sword sleep in my hand:
Till we have built Jerusalem,
In England’s green & pleasant Land

  1. This is one of my most favorite of English Hymns – It also always reminds me of the awesome movie Chariots of Fire…

  2. Lovely, lovely post, and how coincidental is it that I have a half-drafted post that begins with a Blake poem, in progress?

We played this at my Dad’s funeral. His most favourite hymn…. And might that be Glastonbury Tor you have as the picture? That’s my neck of the woods, where I grew up :-) x

    • We played it at my daughter’s wedding. My most favorite hymn.
That is indeed the Tor. I will be visiting there in June.
You had a wonderful neighborhood!! :-)

Yay! Well have a wonderful time there :-) I went to school in Street (next to Glastonbury), and if you happen to see a sign for a little village called ‘Chilton Polden’ then you’ve passed mine :-) xx

      • I will take pictures and post them! :-)

I miss my home….. (I know I only live 4 hrs away and I go home a lot, but still)! If you get the chance go to Cheddar Gorge, it is beautiful, (and you can get some name-sake cheese)! :-) xx

      • I’ll try! I’m on a bee and garden viewing trip… :-)

AMAZING….. when is this trip, which gardens are you visiting? (Thinking my Motherrr might fancy such delights)! x

      • June 21-26. Still planning where to visit, but I’ll post my plans on here. :-)

Yay! Ahhh I thought it was an organised thingyme! I see now (Apologies for all the exclaimations, however have been back in placement in the hospital for the first time in weeks and I think I have gone a bit nutty from tiredness). Anyway, if I know the gardens I shall advise. If you fancy going to see some beautiful nature reserves, ‘Shapwick Heath’ is my most fav. There are some beautiful bird hides, one of which has the backdrop of the tor…. magical x

  4. It is a magical place!! :-)
